ABOUT ME

The only time I feel alive is when I’m painting
– Vincent VanGogh.

My Background

The greatest gift I have given myself is the time to paint.  The joy I feel when I’m at my easel is beyond measure.  After a long career as a management consultant I slowly transitioned to painting full time and fulfilled a long-held promise to spend my days doing what I loved most.

It’s been twenty-five years since I made that transition and I continue to be challenged, inspired, frustrated and exhilarated by creating art.  My early art education in the junior and high school years was fairly basic and once I got to college, my art professors focused on the elements of composition, color theory, edges and atmosphere, and this continues to inform my work today.  I enjoy exploring the work of artists from Impressionism to Minimalism to Abstraction, all of whom have had an influence on my work.

My subjects tend to convey what I find beautiful, whether they be places or things or creatures or simply shapes, forms and colors.  My palette is often limited as I enjoy the simplicity and challenge of monochromatic tones and narrow ranges of color.  I find when I am deeply connected to what I’m painting, I do my best work.  It’s like I stop painting the tree and become the tree.  That deep connection or love for subject is the true magic of my process.
